ABILITY CLASS

Choose between multiple categories of what ability class you belong in first. 

Ability Classes include: 

  • PROFESSIONAL

  • EXPERT (see age groups below)

  • SPORT (see age groups below)

  • NOVICE (see age groups below)

  • SINGLESPEED

  • CLYDESDALE (200+ LBS)

  • OPEN CLASS (60+ YEARS OLD)

  • FAT BIKE

If you need some clarification on the Ability Classes, here are some general guidelines:

  • CAT 3 racers should race in the Novice or Sport class

  • CAT 2 racers should race in either the Sport or Expert class

  • CAT 1 racers should race in either the Expert or Pro class

  • If you are new to racing, you should race in the Novice class

  • If you have some experience or want a little more competition, you should race in the Sport class

  • Experiences & extremely fit or competitive racers should race in the Expert class

  • Pro rider class - you know who you are

ABILITY CLASS RULES

  1. If you are uncertain of what class you belong in still, it is recommended that you select the lower class that you are contemplating. 

  2. You may change Ability Class during the season.  *No age group changes, only ability class.*  

  3. You MUST fill out a plate change form to change classes. They are available in Race Headquarters in the Competition Center office, in the Balcony House, at Winter Park Resort base. 

  4. Any racer who is consistently finishing in the top of their class is encouraged to move up to the next ability class.  Move-ups are done at rider discretion.

  5. Once a rider moves up a class, they cannot move back down to the lower class. 

  6. If a rider upgrades mid-season & they want to have their points count towards the series scoring, they must move up before the 3rd race.

  7. If the rider moves up before the 3rd race, they will receive one point less than the lowest points awarded for the new category for the previous races.

  8. FAT BIKE ABILITY CLASS - minimum tire width is 4 inches.

AGE CLASS

All Novice, Sport & Expert riders must select their Age Class. This is based on the age that you will be on December 31, 2019.  

  • Men's age groups by ability category:

    • Novice: 14 & Under; 15-18; 19+​

    • Sport: 18 & Under, 19-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50+

    • Expert: 18 & Under, 19-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50+

    • Open 60+

  • Women's age groups by ability category:

    • Novice: 14 & Under​; 15-18; 19+

    • Sport: 18 & Under; 19-39, 40+

    • Expert: 18 & Under; 19-39, 40+​​

OFFICIAL RESULTS

There will be a 30 minute protest period after live results are posted at the finish arena before on-site results are made official. Following that, there is an extended protest period for riders who left the race before awards. This is for 12 hours following the award ceremony. Official results will post online 24 hours after the awards conclude.  There will be a $50 fee to file a protest with the race officials.

SERIES INFO & SCORING/POINTS SYSTEM

Series Riders will be ranked based on the point that they earn over the course of six races, using the five best results to tabulate the final results.  Points are based on the World Cup points system.

Series results & awards will be presented following the regular race award ceremony at the King of the Rockies race.
